Are you an alcoholic? Find out what Ayurveda should say. - Guide for Healthy Tips

What is alcoholism?

Alcoholism is considered a chronic mental illness that causes dependence on a toxic substance with far-reaching negative consequences for health. It produces pleasant effects in smaller quantities, but is dangerous when consumed in large quantities. Alcohol slows down the brain, making you think foggy and weakening your inhibition. Compulsive and excessive consumption of alcohol can lead to damage to the liver, brain and nerves, increased blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, impotence, infertility, breast and throat cancer, premature aging.

Alcoholics are either “alcohol-dependent” or “alcoholics”, and sometimes both. People who depend on alcohol want to stop, but they can not and suffer a withdrawal syndrome when they try to quit smoking. They cope with their social responsibilities and, as a rule, remain within limits, hiding their dependence on friends and family. People who abuse alcohol, usually lose a sense of responsibility to the family and society, which leads to disruption of relationships, career and family. They need not just medical care, but also counseling and huge support from the family and friends to fight this terrible disease.

Ayurvedic perspective on alcoholism:

Charaka Samhita, considered one of the most authoritative, comprehensive and ancient (5000 years) Ayurvedic writings, mentions alcohol as both a tonic and a dangerous toxin.

In the section on alcohol consumption, in Charaka Samhita, alcohol is defined as a toxin. If someone still wants to consume, not paying attention to health hazards, it contains very detailed strict rules that must be adopted to limit its negative impact on the body.

Ayurvedic texts state that a properly used medicine turns into nectar, and misuse becomes a poison.

The strictness of the text adheres to the basic principle of Ayurveda, so as not to take toxin, if you have not prepared your body for it. Being mentally and physically skilled, eating seasonal foods, types of containers to which alcohol should be served, when and what foods to take with you, the appropriate method of consumption, time and place, etc., are some of the wise pointers in this broad The world of writing. Kharaka Samhita strictly demands that a person understand their own body constitution (your prakriti is Vatu, Pitta and Kapha), because the rules of precaution and stricture vary according to specific constitutions.

Alcohol is the opposite of Ojas

The Sanskrit word Ojas, meaning “vivacity”, is the purest and most subtle essence of the body, which is extracted from food that is completely digested. Ojas circulates in all corporeal and cardiac tissues, supporting the physical self, bringing clarity to the mind and balancing the emotions.

Alcohol is light, hot, sharp, thin, sour, pervasive, fast, rough, expansive and dry qualities that are completely opposite to ojas. Alcohol is quickly absorbed into our blood and penetrates into all parts and instantly penetrates into the heart, affecting ten qualities of ojas. Alcohol has a direct effect on sattva (purity of mind), causing excitement or intoxication, contrary to the bliss, tranquility and health that Ohas provides.

Stay in control:

In moderate amounts and with self-control, alcohol can promote healthy digestion, stress relief, respiratory effects and healthy sleep. Alcohol was signed as co-drink with some ayurvedic medicines, such as Trayodashang Guggul and Kankayan Vati, but with an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner.

If you are nonalcoholic, DO NOT start drinking alcohol, thinking about the health benefits. This is for those who are already used to alcohol, and to control themselves. There are many other ways and means to get the above mentioned health benefits. Even ordinary alcoholics should take a break from alcohol for weeks or months, so that the body can restore balance and health.

Aristas – Alternative
