Baking soda

Baking powder

On the other hand, the baking powder is a combination of baking soda, tartar cream and cornstarch. If you use baking powder to make dough, the first leaven occurs when the powder gets wet, and the other when heated. For each cup of flour, you must add 1 teaspoon of baking powder.

There are also recipes that require the use of both baking soda and baking powder. The important thing you have to do is to balance these ingredients if you use them together because acids and carbon dioxide from baking soda can affect the amount of fermentation.

Another important thing to remember is that you should always use these ingredients fresh, because they both have a shelf life. You should buy new ones every 3 months and test them before using them. You can do this by mixing 3 tablespoons of white distilled vinegar and ½ teaspoons of baking soda in a small bowl. Mix the mixture well, and if it is filled with bubbles, baking soda will be fresh and useful for use.
